Hambleton Wind Band was established in 2026 as an adult community wind band for the Hambleton area of North Yorkshire.
The band takes its name from the Hambleton Hills (part of the Cleveland Hills) and the old Hambleton District which includes Northallerton, Thirsk, Bedale, Great Ayton, Stokesley, and Easingwold.
We considered 'concert band' and 'symphonic wind band' - but decided the simple 'wind band' better represented both the instrumentation and the friendly and unpretentious atmosphere we hope to engender!
Band repertoire ranges from classical to modern, film to shows, including works specifically written for wind band by composers such as Gustav Holst, Philip Sparke, Martin Ellerby, Rossano Galante, and Steven Reineke.

Ellis Marshall is a founding member and Musical Director of Hambleton Wind Band since its formation in 2026. A clarinettist for over twenty years, Ellis has performed in a wide range of pit orchestras and wind bands across the country, developing a deep love for ensemble playing and the joy it brings to both musicians and audiences.
Ellis’ interest in conducting began in 2015 and has grown steadily ever since. His aim is to build a cohesive, joyful sound within the band, encouraging players to develop their ensemble skills, support one another, and simply enjoy making music together. He is passionate about creating a rehearsal environment filled with positivity, fun and musical togetherness.
When not conducting or playing clarinet, he can often be found walking his miniature schnauzer, Lily, across the moors or relaxing in a coffee shop with a slice of cake.

Hambleton Wind Band rehearse on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm at Applegarth Primary School, Northallerton. The address is

The school is on Upwell Rd, but the best place to park is at the far end of the Applegarth long stay car park (DL7 8LZ), free after 6pm. There is a footpath from there, and you will be able to see the school building from the car park. It's only about 100m.
There are limited parking spaces in the school for those with large instruments/mobility issues.

As a community band there is no formal audition process but, if you play a wind or percussion instrument and are comfortable reading music and performing as part of an ensemble, why not come along and see what we're all about?
Whether you've recently finished school, play with another group, or are returning to music after a break, you'll be very welcome.
Our aim is simple - to create a friendly, inclusive band where people can share their love of music, develop their skills, and enjoy playing together.
